Tell us, Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Brittany Bowman. I’m a tea drinking, tattooed, CUPCAKE BAKING Mommy! I’m the owner and sole baker of my in home cupcake business properly named Kupcake Killer in the tiny town of Anderson, South Carolina. Basically, I make delicious cupcakes and other goodies that make you want to slap somebody!
Why do you do what you do?
I make cupcakes because I personally love them. I love coming up with new recipes and really enjoy what I do!
Tell us a little about your background?
I’ve always loved to bake but never really considered myself as a great baker. As I’ve gotten older I definitely think my baking skills have advanced. I think you have to be willing to step out of the box sometimes and try things that may seem insane at the time, but that’s when you will grow. I really have to thank my grandma for getting me interested in baking. I remember being a kid and helping her make cakes and other goodies—and those will forever be some of my fondest memories!
Who are you most inspired by?
I’m really inspired by people who are passionate about what they do! I love to hear that people who maybe aren’t considered “professionals” in their fields are making a name for themselves off raw talent! I really am a firm believer that if there is a will, there is a way! My wonderful family and friends defiantly keep me going—especially my fiancĂ© [Jonathan] and daughter [Londyn] who just so happen to be my quality control!
{{Brittany's Kupcake tattoo for Londyn by Ghaham Bradford of Pain & Wonder Tattoo}}What work do you most enjoying doing?
I really love doing cupcakes and cupcake cakes. I’ve just recently started getting into the cupcake cakes and I love it because I’m able to be more artistic with the designs and overall it’s just a bigger canvas to work with.
What themes do you pursue?
I like to think my cupcakes are classy/annoyingly cute! I get inspiration and ideas from everything.
Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
I think the best inspiration for really motivating me to start baking cupcakes to sell was when I went to have some work done on my tattoo. Every time I go and have work done I always bake my tattoo artist [Graham Bradford at Pain and Wonder in Athens, GA] cupcakes. One day I was there and he flat out asked me why I didn’t sell my cupcakes and that they were awesome. I told him I never really thought I was good enough or really lived in a place where cupcakes would take off. I went home that night and asked my fiance [Jonathan] if he honestly thought they were good enough to try and sell. Of course he told me they were. (he’d been telling me this for years) I then came up with the idea to start doing the cupcakes in a jar, that way they could be shipped anywhere. I really think sometimes it takes an outside source to confirm that what family and friends have been telling you all along are in fact accurate!
What song/songs/music genres inspire you?
My taste in music is eclectic to say the least. I’m in love with what some would consider “strange” music. I’m in love with NIN, Tub Ring, Foxy Shazam, Finch, The Pixies, Billy Talent, Skunk Anansie, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Distillers, Poison the Well, The Horrorpops, Sevendust, 7 Year Bitch, L7 and The Cure just to name a few. I do have to say I make the MOST beautiful cupcakes when I listen to Muse.
What do you dislike about your work?
Doing dishes for sure!
What do you like about your work?
Everything but doing the dishes! Ha ha! Seriously, I love trying new recipes and flavors. Decorating and watching my daughter eat all the frosting off the cupcakes are by far the most fun parts.
Name something you love, and why.
I love the strangest, most random things. I love first and foremost my AMAZING family and friends—especially my little cutie girl, Londyn, CUPCAKES, baking, teapots, aprons, candy, old cars, skeleton keys, antiques, bubblegum machines, castles, art, vintage jewelry, embroidery, crocheting, crafts, zombies, gingerbread men, Bombay cats, geocaching and tattoos! I love all these things because they make me who I am I suppose.
What is your dream project?
Just getting to bake cupcakes is my dream project! Every order is different and that’s what I like about it!
Favorite or most inspirational place?
My favorite place is my kitchen because that’s where everything goes down! I love it too that my family and friends can hang out with me while I’m baking. I however come up with some of the best ideas/recipes when I’m in the shower!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Do what you love and love what you do!
Professionally, what’s your goal?
I WILL someday open up my own adorable cupcakery! I’m really looking forward to what the future holds and until then I will continue to bake out of my kitchen until my oven explodes!

Cupcakes!
Oh my word I LOVE your apron! And I wish I would have seen the cookie monster one before my daughters last birthday because (much to what I did not want it to be) it was Seaseme Street.
